To discover unusual facts that people have in common.
Time Required
Five to ten minutes.
Group Size
An unlimited number of participants, who will work in groups of three.
Materials
Clock or timer.
Preparation
None.
Process
- Instruct the participants to form groups of three members each.
- Explain that, upon a signal, members of each group of three will have two
minutes to discover one unusual fact that they share in common.
Emphasize that the common item should be very specific (for example, all
were born in the same state).
- Signal for the activity to begin, then call time after two minutes.
- Ask for examples of the unusual facts that were discovered.
- Direct the participants to form new groups of three members each and to
repeat the process. Continue this procedure as time allows.
Discussion
- Was this a difficult task? Why or why not?
- How do common interests provide a basis for establishing interpersonal
relationships?
- How could common interests be used to create increased team cohesiveness?
