CLIP-CLOP-PLOP
Objective
To pass signals around the group circle.
Time Required
Five minutes.
Group Size
Five to fifteen participants.
Materials
Clock or timer.
Preparation
None.
Process
- Instruct the participants to form a large circle. Designate one person as
the leader.
- Explain that, on your signal, the leader will start the activity by
pointing the index finger of one hand at the person on either his or her
left or right and saying "CLIP." That person then goes next. This
person can either repeat the action of the leader by pointing in the same
direction and repeating the word "CLIP" or reverse the direction
by pointing back in the direction from which he or she received the signal
while saying "CLOP." The third possibility is that the second
person can point at anyone in the circle and say "PLOP" and that
person goes next. This process will continue until time is called.
- Signal for the leader to begin. Time for approximately two or three
minutes, then stop the activity.
Discussion
- How did you feel during this activity? Why?
- Was there any confusion in sending the signals? Why or why not?
- How do mixed messages affect our ability to communicate with others?
